Chicago 2010

Ramblings of an accidental, modern-day learn as I go, fell out of living one way; into role of stay at home mom of two!

“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.” Don Williams, Jr.

Two years ago, my family and I took a road trip, a very long road trip, I mentioned it before (here), to Illinois with a stop off in Chicago. It was lots of fun!

We visited the Museum of Science and Industry, and my kids loved it (me too!).

One of my favorite images, during our visit, came from inside the museum; I love that plastered all over the walls, not really plastered, anyways, they have these sayings on a wall…

What makes you laugh? and What gets you moving? and What dreams do you have? and What inspires you? So, very cool!

If you’ve never been… ya gotta go! It is fun, interactive, informative and the entire structure inside and out is incredible.

The evening was overcast with promise of rain; enjoying our ride through downtown Chicago, I sat in the back of an SUV, enjoying the view.

I couldn’t resist the temptation; I started to snap, but once the rain fell… up went the window.

I wasn’t sure how well my camera would work from behind the tinted green window; I am pleasantly pleased! I like the effect produced (see second image)… a lot!

Chicago has lots to offer, which, by the way, is a lot… lots. lots. lots.

The Theaters, Parks and The Pier (love The Pier) and the list goes on… beautiful. fun. lively. couldn’t get enough. looking forward to going back!

Oh… the FOOD. YUM. The food deserves a post all to itself!

Chicago is our family vacation destination this year so your post is so timely! I can’t wait to take my four little suburbanite girls and show them what life in a city is like. Exciting!

Beautiful pictures. I’ve only been to Chicago once, about 20 years ago, but I remember feeling so…alive…and thrilled.

Ahhh! You are making me soooo miss my hometown! I haven’t lived there for almost 12 years now, though I get to visit often. We’ll be there next month with the kids and these were some great reminders of fun stuff we can do while we’re there!

Amy, great pics, as if I expected something different, what an EYE you have! (“All the more to see you with my dear,” – sorry, couldn’t resist.) And I must say you have very clean windows in your car! I went to visit a friend in ’06 who lives in a suburb, but I never got to the town; clearly I should have. How long was your road trip? I would love to take my team there.

you crack me up… no humpty dumpty jokes… bahahaha! Oh, that wasn’t our car, if it were from my vehicle you would see a million finger print & smudge marks; I have no idea what my kids do to their respective widows… and I don’t wanna know either (lol)! It took us a solid 24 hours that included one stop over and 557 stops. The way back took us almost two days; I’m surprised I lived to tell about it. The Sailor is a professional traveler… he LOVES to go on road trips, well that was before, now work keeps him other wise occupied; I digress. Well there are rules… rules that I’m not familiar with. You never, ever use two sets of keys. he has keys to my jeep and I have keys to his vehicle. we stopped for dinner. while he finished up I made a ‘diaper’ run and got the kids arranged in the car. I started the car with my keys. we get in the car and go SEVERAL 100 miles he notices my keys. Guess what??? he left his keys on the table where we ate dinner. Yep, had to turn the car around and go get them. and of course it was my fault. lol It was worth every crazy minute! I want to do it again! I cannot believe your friend did not drive you into the city… well Illinois is a fairly decent size State (ha) maybe your friend lives so far out.

I was just there and loved it! The NATO summit was going, so we didn’t get around as much as we wanted, but it reminds me a bit of London…like and American London. I’ll have to do more next time!

Taste of Chicago was starting our last day there, so we were limited on what we could do that day. I’m glad it was just that one day, tho!

Ooo… thank you! yeah I love that one too! I guess I am most partial to the one of my little one and her dad, they are in front of me, with the view of the pier and the city surrounding us. I couldn’t resist taking the shot!

I appreciate the blog compliment… thank you!

Ooo…thank you. Magical ~I like! It wasn’t a window…I took that at a water geyser play thingy at one of our Parks. The girls had lots of fun and I had fun capturing it — next time though I will be playing. I had no idea it would be so much fun; I wasn’t dressed for it.
